Middlemount Coal Pty Ltd (Middlemount) is an incorporated joint venture between Peabody Energy Australia Pty Ltd (50.003 % interest through Peabody Custom Mining Pty Ltd) and Yancoal Australia Ltd (49.997% interest through Gloucester (SPV) Pty Ltd).

Yancoal Australia Ltd is a listed public company (ASX listed) with a business focus on the Australian coal industry. The company is one of the largest export coal producers in Australia, producing both thermal and metallurgical coals from mines located in Queensland and New South Wales. Group coal production is planned to grow over the next five years from a number of brownfields projects. Growth plans are underpinned by a large reserve base of 800Mt coal, sufficient port allocation and a supportive major shareholder - Yanzhou Coal Mining Company Ltd (78% holding). Yancoal also manages on behalf of its major shareholder an additional two mines located in Queensland and Western Australia. Yancoal Australia Ltd (Yancoal) produces approximately 16 million tonnes of saleable (equity basis) thermal and metallurgical coal per annum for export into international markets. Operating four sites and managing five others across New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, Yancoal employs approximately 5,500 people, sourcing the majority of its people from the local communities in which the company operates. The two largest shareholders in Yancoal are Yanzhou Coal with a 65.46% holding and Cinda International with 16.7%.
